Two men rob a convenience store during a winter storm in central Pennsylvania, only to veer off the road during their escape. The passenger is knocked unconscious when he’s thrown from the pickup truck that continues to tumble out onto a frozen pond with the driver still inside. Each is unaware that the other has survived.
Faye McKenna, a teenage girl who still grieves the recent loss of her mother broods in her room a short distance away from the scene of the accident. She feels trapped in the isolated house that she shares with an abusive stepfather and his cold-hearted mother. She longs for escape and a better life.
The men who survived the accident find their way to Faye’s house, each with their own intent. They arrive at different times and what they discover inside is truly unexpected. Things unfold rapidly as these strangers collide, each compelled by their limited view of the bigger picture and their ignorance of preceding events.
It’s up to the county sheriff, Edward Toomey, to piece the evidence together and determine if it was mere coincidence or something more extraordinary that led to the outcome of that fateful night.
